A Paper Tiger is a person who has a certificate and no real knowledge.
To be precise, it is a person who has bought a certificate, or otherwise convinced some fellow to give him one, and he can’t really do the things listed on the certificate.
We used to call this idea, of bought certificates instead of earned, as ‘Paper mills.’ Some guy would just charge money and send paper, and it was just a money making scheme.
A Paper tiger is something that seems as threatening as a tiger, but does not withstand challenge.
And, it was pretty cruel, because it misrepresented the martial arts, and it misrepresented the individual with the cert in hand.
Now, I don’t particularly like the notion of Paper Tigers. So let me define what is happening here, and what I decided to do about it.
Some fellow goes to a martial arts school, then stops. Maybe he should stop, maybe he shouldn’t, but he is still left halfway through the ranks, he still wants what he was working for, he still wants to earn his black belt.
Or, even worse, a fellow that never went to a martial art school, but still wants the diploma.
Sometimes these fellows look for the short cut.
Sometimes the head rationalization is massive.
‘Oh, I knew what he (the instructor) was talking about.’ Or, ‘I can fight good, I deserve it.’ Or, ‘well, I’ve been practicing, sort of, so I’m at that rank.’
Do you see all the potential variations here?
But the fellow hasn’t done the work!
Now, I’ll be honest, there will always be people who manage to get away with this. Sometimes they’ll just print up their own certificates.
But I want my signature to mean something when I put it on a certificate. So I did several things.
One thing I did was eliminate ‘poser’ techniques from my courses. These are techniques where the attacker has to wait, to pose, while the defender makes the technique work.
Another is to align the techniques so they are more logical. This makes them easier to learn and make work.
And, then there is video. I can tell when a person is faking it. I can spot even a mental hesitation and ‘think’ in the middle of the form.
And it is easy to see when a technique isn’t working.
And, because of The Master Instructor Course, I can give a person spot on instruction that will help him make it work.
I don’t care if a person comes to me and isn’t quite competent, I only care if I can’t make him competent. I just want to make him into a real tiger!
So by the structure of my courses, and video testing, and the VERY high worth of the art I am teaching, I’ve had good results, and, as far as I know, no Paper Tigers.
See, the thing is this, let’s say a guy comes to me with head rationalizations, and he wants a certificate…when he sees the logic, when the error is pointed out without making him feel bad, then the Paper Tiger becomes…a Tiger.
That’s what I want, martial artists who are real tigers, and, truth, that’s what the people who sign up for courses want. They WANT to be real martial artists. And it is my duty to get them there.
The reason I tell you this is so that when you sign up for the Kang Duk Won Karate Course, the Best Online Karate Course in the World, you will know that you are in good hands.
This has been a page about making a real tiger out of a paper tiger.
You guys may think that this is a tongue in check article on getting the best martial arts equipment, but it isn’t. I have personally tried the methods here, and they are top notch body calisthenic methods.
First, I tried cinderblocks. I didn’t want to dig holes and sink poles for the Plum Flower Fist, which is a form of Praying Mantis Gung Fu. This was great. Jumping up down gave me strength, as well improving my balance.
Yeah, baby!
From there I look for other things to use for martial arts equipment.
Tires were great. I learned to use tires originally for swinging a wooden sword. Took a lot of strength and control to make the tire turn and bounce the way you wanted it to. So I grabbed nine of them, arranged them in a simple grid of three by three, and started walking the circle, Pa Kua Chang style. This was odd, hard to ground through the springiness of the tires. but, you often learn more from what doesnt’ work than what does, so I moved on.
My my next experiment in Martial Arts Training Equipment.I put four by fours on edge and practiced forms on them. This was interesting, and taken directly from Ton Toi Northern Shaolin Gung Fu. Ton Toi means springy legs, and I learned all sorts of things about balance while springing from beam to beam.
And, I tried doing forms on top of fences. It was wild. Trying to spin and move, six feet above the ground, without falling al-l-l the way down! I don’t know how much I got out of this martial arts equipment, but if was fun!
And, in between these things I tried hanging balls from the rafters, punching tennis balls at a wall, and other sorts of things. But my next big foray into martial arts equipment was at the old Los Angeles Zoo.
The old zoo, now sort of gone, or at least redone into a picnic area, was a mess of cages and bounders strewn about in the cages to give the animals some sort of sense of nature. So I worked out in cages…lions and tiger and me…oh my!
And I learned a lot! I especially grew in arm strength. Having to hang on to the side of a cage, or going across the top monkey style, built up a lot of strength in the arms. Trying to do kicks while so perched was especially educated. You get a whole new appreciation for how the hip joints work.
Now, last in my martial arts equipment were trees. At the Los Angeles zoo there were all sorts of low hanging trees. I could walk on the trunks of some of them, climb to joints, and generally swing around and do all sorts of stuff. The interesting thing about this was that I could practice sinking my weight.
One of the places I got this idea from, aside from my experiences in the cages, was a fellow wrote an article where he had to hang from a tree limb for an hour a day for a few months before the master would teach him.
Well, having done a little hanging myself, I can definitely attest to the benefits in the arms and shoulders. It stretches them out and gives truth to the old saying, ‘A long muscle is a strong muscle.’
Now, that about does it except for one thing…all of the equipment I used cost nothing. That’s right, I didn’t have to spend any money at my martial arts equipment suppliers, and I got a better work out than some big nautilus machine could ever give!
Martial Arts Survival Training Replaces Ammunition!
This thing, of martial arts survival training replacing rifles and handguns, is a real thing.
You see, I just read another instance of a gunshop running out of ammunition. So, they limited their customers to one box of ammo apiece.
My fists are my real weapons…heh!
I’ll never run out of fists!
Isn’t that interesting, we are having a shortage of ammo because the United States government is apparently buying it all up.
Sheesh! What are they expecting a war? A revolution? An uprising of citizens because of the things that the government is…don’t get me started!
Anyway, the point is that real self defense starts with the fists. Or with broken bottles and clubs and whatever else might make a quick weapon.
You see, the mugger isn’t going to tap you on the shoulder and challenge you to a karate kumite match.
He’s going to jump out of some dark corner and conk your noggin with a rusty engine block!
Yes! I’m serious!
The guy in your house while you are all sleeping upstairs will probably have some sort of weapon, and he will be willing to use it to get away with your stuff. You know, things like your car and your wife or daughter.
And, it is fun to fantasize that you will just pull out your pistolo and give him an extra rectum.
And, I am not discounting that happy possibility.
But, fighting starts with the fists, when you don’t have anything else. And what is your gaurantee that you won’t be pushing a shopping cart across the parking lot when a bash mob comes along and decides you’re the wrong color?
What are going to do? Defend yourself with frozen peas?
What are the chances that you will not be able to get to your Smith and Wesson brain popper…or just that you are a bad shot under pressure and miss the sucker?
What are you going to do if you can’t get to your weapon because it is in a lock box…at the bank! Or has a childproof trigger guard! Or you just plain run out of ammo!
So, now you are down to it. Fists. That lampshade over there. Hit him with a sofa cushion!
And he’s got a knife!
Okay. Made my point, didn’t I?
So you need martial arts training. And not that internet crap where they promise you ten moves that will kill anybody.
You ask any trained martial artist and he will laugh in your face at that.
You are going to suddenly remember a trick, when the guy trained in the prison yard, outweighing you by a hundred pounds, trying to stick a knife in your ribs?
No. It takes focus and discipline to remember stuff in the middle of combat. That’s why people train for years…because the quick fix courses don’t work, never have worked, and if they did…we wouldn’t have martial arts!
So, my advice to you is get to a martial arts school. Start learning something. Don’t be the next George Zimmerman…or Trayvon Martin. Don’t be the victim of bash mobs.
Look, there are probs with the country. There are going to be riots! There are going to be hungry people roaming the street!
So get yourself some real martial arts survival training…it’s worked for thousands of years, and it’ll work now. But you have to do it!
Shaolin Kung Fu, the popular myth states, takes lifetimes to learn. You have to go spend three days sitting in front of the temple to be accepted for teaching. You have to undergo bizarre training rituals that will enable you to do handstands on one finger, rip the bark off of trees, break tones of concrete with your head, and…and that’s not the truth.
Those are myths spread by people who want to impress people; by TV programming like the Kung Fu series starring David Carradine.
You don’t have to go to the Shaolin Temple to learn Kung Fu…you can learn this ancient martial art online!
The truth is actually quite a it more simple, yet even more powerful.
The first Shaolin Kung Fu book to hit the shores was ‘Secrets of Shaolin Temple Boxing’ by Robert W. Smith.
In that book Mr. Smith stated that Bodhidharma brought Kung Fu to the Shaolin Temple. Actually, he brought a system of calisthenics to help the dilapidated monks get strong enough to listen to his lectures without falling asleep.
The monks used this method to get stronger, and ended up defending themselves against bandits, and changed the simple calisthenic into a self defense system.
The monks realized five principles of combat (animal fighting modes), eventually expanding the five principles into 72 techniques.
So Shaolin Kung Fu shouldn’t take a lifetime to learn. It should be able to be learned within a few months.
The original Shaolin monks learned it within months; why can’t you?
The reason is that for over 2,000 years well meaning people have been adding things to the once simple system. These things have confused Shaolin Kung Fu, mushed concepts all together, put techniques out of order, and even slanted it for tournaments or other personal interest.
In Shaolin Kung Fu the five animal fighting modes have been redefined. The original five animals were the tiger, snake, crane, leopard, and dragon.
But the tiger and the leopard are similar; why should you learn two animals that ae pretty much the same?
In the system called the Shaolin Butterfly the five animals are the tiger, snake, crane, dragon, and Monkey.
Actually, the monkey has been held to be one of the original five animals by many schools of thought.
So, we have a revised and better definition of the five animal fighting modes.
Now, each of the five animals has a specific attribute; one gives strength, one gives balance, and so on.
The problem is that these attributes are mere descriptions, tactics, at best, and not real martial arts techniques.
However, if you assign a stance to each animal, you suddenly come up with the five original concepts of the Shaolin Kung Fu monks.
The tiger is aggressive, and he uses the front stance for charging.
The crane is delicate and balanced, and he uses the one legged, crane stance to achieve this.
The Dragon twines and writhes, and he uses a cross kneeling type of stance.
The snake is flexible clinging, and he uses such stances as the one legged squatting stance.
The monkey is agile, and he uses the back stance to build this agility.
Now, these are still mere approximations of techniques. But one can see how the five stances could be used to begin the animal emulation process. But, how does one expand upon these stances/characteristics into a simple list of techniques?
Well, there is only so much that can be put into an article.
But, if you really want to learn this stuff, and I mean in months instead of lifetimes ~ if you want to figure this stuff out and be able to use it in real life ~ then you’ll find another great article on Shaolin Instruction at Monster Martial arts. Or, you can take a look at the Shaolin Kung Fu Butterfly course itself.
I went to see superman today,
definitely a martial arts movie.
Supie has daddy probs,
and the bad guy has mommie probs,
(not really, but it sounds funny to say)
and it is a slugfest fantastic!
And I had this thought
about halfway through the movie.
There’s a little superman in ALL of us!
A martial artist is a superman.
Sure we are.
We’re stronger,
longer lasting.
We rarely get sick,
we even tend to avoid accidents!
Wouldn’t you say that is a cut above Joe Ordinary?
So what makes us that way,
and what is our kryptonite?
What makes us superman is simple.
On the physical level it is the simple work out.
When you do a the first form of Karate,
for instance,
you are doing twenty lunges.
By the time you have done five forms
you have done lunges,
kneels,
squats,
all manner of sheer physical exercise.
So when you are doing Martial Arts,
you are doing body calisthenics
the way a madman might do them.
Or…
a superman.
On the second level we have energy.
Every time you do your forms
you are doing cycles of deep breathing.
This oxygenates the body,
feeds the tan tien
(the energy generator)
and cause incredible amounts of sheer energy
to swarm through the body.
So when you are doing martial arts
you are feeding the energy system,
and making something
a lot longer lasting and more powerful
than even the muscles you have built up.
On the third level we have thought.
Thought is the most powerful thing in the universe,
and Joe Ordinary doesn’t even know it exists!
Joe Ordinary thinks thought is doing a book report,
or something like that!
But we know the truth.
We know the truth because we built up all that energy,
and all that energy had to be controlled,
and the only way to control energy is with thought.
And all that energy we build up in the body,
as we learn to control it,
we learn to control the energy of the universe.
And thus,
through three levels,
we become stronger,
longer lasting,
have more energy,
know how to control that energy.
Can you understand why I refer to us as…
supermen!
Now,
what is our kryptonite?
That is an interesting question.
What can harm us?
The only thing in the universe,
the whole entire universe,
that can harm a superman is…
himself!
He can abuse his powers,
fragment his self,
lose sight of that incredible energy that is him.
The exact procedure
for making yourself less than a superman,
and,
indeed,
less than a man,
is to forsake virtue.
Virtue is part of the soul,
it is the desire to do good.
When we don’t teach,
share the lessons,
spread our charm,
then the energy dies,
we fragment,
and lose sight of our superhuman selves.
Virtue.
Help a child.
Pet a dog.
Laugh at a barbecue.
Wrestle with your younger brother…and let him win.
Tell a girl she is beautiful.
Hold a job,
learn,
share.
That’s all it takes to protect our superhuman powers.
And how super can we get?
Well,
that depends on your work out.
The more work out you do,
the more forms you do…
(every form is a prayer)
…the stronger you get.
The more times you do a technique,
the more integrated you become as a human being.
The more times you kick and punch,
the more you fill yourself with superhuman powers.
And,
of course,
there are going to be those that disagree.
Who say that I’m wrong,
and give other reasons.
but they are mere earthlings.
If we are patient enough,
we can raise them up.
And patience is a virtue.
And maybe they will come,
someday,
to the truth that we know.
You are a superman.
So,
go enjoy the movie.
Have a ball.
Eat popcorn and cheer for the good guys,
and feel sorry for the bad guys.
They just haven’t worked out enough,
lost sight of themselves,
don’t know their own power.
Enjoy the movie.
And,
BTW,
the new site is called…
Free Bruce Lee.
Google it,
it’s about a super guy,
and it’s got some super stuff on it,
and it is built for super people to enjoy.
Have a great work out!
Al
And don’t forget to go to…
Start your journey to superhuman right here…

Free Bruce Lee Website Promises to be Significant!
Bruce Lee is the most famous martial artist of all time. He impacted upon America like a Kung Fu fist, shaking all our standards of Martial Arts style fighting and cinema alike.
Bruce’s Martial Art, Jeet Kune Do, would bring elegance to streetfighting, and a sureness of character.
Bruce Lee (The Little Dragon)
His movies would replace the pale chop sockie kung fu flix in a heartbeat.
It is only fitting, then that the most prolific martial arts writer of all time, Al Case, would choose to put up a website dedicated to The Little Dragon. Still in composition, the website is called Free Bruce Lee! And you didn’t even know he was in prison! (He he, snuffle snort–sorry, couldn’t resist).
Anyway, the website already has a handful of articles on Bruce’s life and times, including handwritten letters, articles his martial arts and insane workouts, and even pieces on his actual fights.
That Bruce Lee got in fights is no secret. He grew up in a tough town, was a member of a street gang called the ‘Tigers of Junction Street,’ fought in the Hong Kong Boxing Championships, and, of course, had that famous battle with Wong Jack Man.
The fight with Kung Fu stylist Wong Jack Man is, of course, the most interesting of all Bruce Lee’s fights, as it may be the one that Bruce actually lost, or at least came out on the sad side of a draw. There is MUCH controversy regarding this fight, and of particular interest is the article entitled: ‘Bruce Lee Battle with Wong Jack Man!‘
As has been noted, this website is in the beginning stages, but it promises to be the most valuable Bruce Lee resource on the whole net. It is in depth, written by a writer who lived through those times, and offers the unique perspective of a martial artist who has studied the life of Bruce Lee since 1967 (when the author began martial arts, and when Bruce Lee hit the small screen as Kato in the Green Hornet television series).
Happy weekend!
Have a GREAT work out!
And,
I hope you have some small goal set for this summer.
That’s how you get the big ones,
you know.
You just set aside small goals,
do them one at a time,
and before you know it,
you’ve made it.
Like small colored belts up to the black belt.
One step at a time.
After a while you become a different person.
A person who keeps going,
keeps taking steps
while others fall off to the wayside.
I shoulda taken that karate class when I was a kid!
Now,
I came across a great ad today.
It was in my email box,
attached as an add on to a prepper newsletter I get.
Normally I trust these guys,
but when I saw the ad
I had to recalibrate.
Cancel city, here I come.
The ad,
you see,
was for the martial arts. Oh,nothign wrong with martial arts ads, they open doors, but this ad was a repackaging of an old program.
Same thing advertised years ago.
same techniques,
same grainy tape.
But it’s the advertising tactics that got me.
For instance…
“Live without fear the rest of your life!”
I didn’t know I was in fear.
I suppose in high school I was in fear.
But soon as I left that snakepit…
no…
I’m not living in fear.
Another catch line they had was
‘Watch (this video) once,
practice it if you want,
use it tomorrow.’
So,
no study,
no practice,
and it will be usable.
Huh!
I say do my courses,
practice the crap out of them.
and they become workable.
But practice!
And,
may I point out
that practice is fun,
and not something you should sneer at,
as this ad does.
And,
my favorite,
there are special forces and SEALs and
all manner of terrorist killers
who praise this tape as the way they are alive today.
15 techniques,
that’s all,
and the baby will be safe and genetically sound.
I could go on for a few hours on this type of stuff,
but it is really counter productive.
So let me just say this…
Would you rather buy a quick fix,
that always includes
a kick to the pomegranates,
a poke to the eyes,
and a poke to the eyes
that will raise his hands
so you can kick him in the pomegranates?
Or would you rather buy a complete art?
They say 15 techniques
and you will be safe from all the convicts
drug dealing
rapists
murderer scum in the world.
I say you should forget the fairy tales,
and get to work.
Fancy talking vs your own hard work.
Now,
let me explain something,
what I do is an education.
What they do is make money.
Nothing wrong with making money,
making money is good,
as long as you are offering a solid product in exchange for it.
Let me explain something,
the structure of these ads goes like this.
Make the sucker like you,
as soon as he likes you scare him with a problem,
then offer him the solution to the problem for a slight fee.
That’s how it works.
Let me rewrite that for you…
Share your desires for a good home and a job you love until he knows he is just like you,
then tell him a burglar is going to break in and rape your girl and your dog,
and then sell him a burglar alarm system.
It doesn’t matter if the system is a bunch of empty cans you tie to a doorknob,
what matter is that you got his money.
Do you understand?
Now,
examine the structure of what I do.
You don’t have to like me.
There is a problem in the martial arts of education,
I offer that education.
Let me rewrite that for you.
I know that people are different,
I know that there are going to be people who don’t understand or like what I’m going to do,
that’s just the way the world works,
and I hope you understand that.
The martial arts have been mixed up,
crossbred,
dumbed down,
made into a Three Stooges fire drill,
and I have the method to fix that.
But,
you need to get some simple tools
and use them till they come out your ears.
Sure,
it’s a quick fix,
but only if you’re work intensive.
Yes,
you can earn a belt fast,
but if you think it’s going to be a gift,
you should go find one of those internet scammers.
Look,
I sell (for instance)
the Matrix Karate course.
The forms are arranged
so the techniques are in order,
and presented in two man format
so you get used to standing and facing and fighting.
But you are going to have to stand and face and fight,
or you are going to get nothing out of it!
And I present a handful of techniques,
but then I show you how to matrix them,
so they multiply like logical rabbits.
Within a few minutes that handful of techniques becomes
squared, then squared again,
and suddenly you have thousands of techniques,
but they are not illogical!
They make sense,
they fight together,
and they even fit together with other arts!
Do you have to do thousands of techniques?
No,
but you have to do the handful of techniques,
and understand the logic
and you have to do them until they come out your ears.
Anybody who thinks I don’t love the martial arts,
and that I have not sweated for ever 45 years,
is a fool.
This is not a quick fix,
this is an education.
And it is a VERY sad truth,
that nobody has this education.
It really is.
Let me tell you a secret.
I bruised for the first seven years.
Then I started figuring it out,
and I stopped bruising.
Yep.
My body actually doesn’t bruise.
Not hardly at all.
Rarely.
And,
here’s the funny thing,
if I don’t think about the technique,
if I let it out
even just a little,
the people I block get BIG bruises.
Now,
how can you get somebody to get that ability,
except through hard work and sweat and even a little blood?
But,
it’s all a matter of awareness,
of focusing awareness through doing the blocks enough,
until you become sufficiently aware of the body,
and then it just doesn’t bruise anymore.
Or,
other things can happen,
but bruises don’t.
Now,
the ONLY way to teach that,
is through hard work.
BUT,
if you make the hard work logical,
then you cut the time down
by half,
by four times.
Heck,
in some cases
you can cut training time down by ten.
But,
work,
focus awareness,
but logically,
that is my secret.
So,
if you think you can read once,
not practice,
and be a Navy SEAL tomorrow,
go for it.
But,
if you want to learn a complete martial art,
all the bells and whistles,
all the guts and trim,
all the joy and hard work…
then you have to be willing to get a course,
set up a few striking targets,
get a few friends over to the garage a few nights a week, work out like a dog, bruise and sweat,
AND HAVE SOME MOFO FUN!
There isn’t any other way.
Oinkey donkey,
I hope I’m preaching to the choir,
because I would hate to have my words wasted on Beavis and Butthead.
Now,
go through my arts,
pick the one you don’t know,
pick the one that will enhance your training.
If you know grappling and knees and elbows,
pick up Matrix Karate,
it will be fists and feet.
If you know Karate and pa kua,
if you know fists and feet and how to get arond somebody,
then pick up Shaolin Butterfly,
figure out how to angle in on the distance and close with somebody.
Then check out the Matrix Kung Fu so you can take ‘em down.
It shows you how to break the martial arts down,
and not in a cookie cutter approach,
but for yourself.
Do the table I show,
analyze your abilities at
hand, foot, knee, elbow, throw,
and then figure out what you need to make your art whole.
Heck,
write me an email if you find something confusing,
or if you aren’t sure which course will fix which distance.
But here’s a break down for you…
fists = matrix karate
feet = Power Kicks (a free bonus on the MAtrix Karate course)
knees and elbows = blinding steel.
(Yes, there is a short but sure matrix of knee and elbow training drills on that course)
stand up takedowns and throws = Matrix Kung Fu.
Just go through your art,
be honest about what you are lacking,
then fill in the pieces.
Could anything be easier?
Could anything be more logical?
I mean,
here are the keys to the kingdom!
Dopuble Oinkey Donkey.
I’m out of here.
Don’t mean to be abrupt,
but I have to see a man about a work out.
I’m the man,
and it’s my work out.
And you guys and gals…
enjoy the heck out of your own work out,
remember,
every form is a prayer.
So pray a lot,
and should that fight ever happen,
you will have a heaven of a chance.
One of the reasons Karate waned while Mixed Martial Arts grew was that people couldn’t knock people out or even down with a Karate punch. This does not signify that Karate, or kung fu or other classical martial arts don’t work, it just means that the knowledge on how to knock a person out with one punch has been lost.
The above noted, if you want to knock somebody out with one punch, it is going to take a bit of work. Even Mohammad Ali (Cassius Clay), relied on luck for his famous ‘phantom punch,’ which knocked out Sonny Liston. But there is a precise technology to make this stunning knock out punch work. The technology is in the martial arts, but has largely been forgotten.
One Punch Knock Outs are Possible!
Back when I started Karate training, in the sixties, the knock out punch was known and sought by martial arts students. They practiced the technique endlessly. And, in the non contact tournaments of the time, when accidents happened and contact was actually made, people went down.
The actual physics of the punch are quite simple.
First, the the punch must be a snapping punch. The student should work as hard on the retraction of the fist as the explosion outward. The reasoning behind this was that if a punch was extended and left out, if it was a thrusting punch instead of a snapping punch, the force would come back down the arm.
But, if you throw a snapping punch, then the impact was left in the body, as the force didn’t have time to come back down the arm.
And that’s all there was to it! Uh, almost.
As simple as that sounds, it does take fanatical practice to make work, and there is one more element that a person should consider.
There was an incident on a university medical campus where a student had taken a cell culture and was walking across the campus. He stumbled, dropped the culture, and it broke on the ground. All the cells in that culture, of course, died. Oddly, all the cells in the original culture also died.
So cells are connected. Well, of course, anybody knows that. If somebody steps on your toe, your whole body reacts.
So, if somebody hits you on the outer layer of skin, but hard enough to jar the cells themselves, the whole body is going to react.
What we are talking about is depth of strike.
You don’t have to hit deep, as, again, the arm will absorb part of the shock of your punch. You just have to hit right, snapping, and with the intent to leave all the trauma in the cells. And, of course, it helps if you hit a sensitive area. Hit the jaw just right, with enough snapping force, there is going to be reaction, and the body is going to crumble. Hit the testicles, or an area in which a pressure point is located, and you are going to have success…your opponent is going to go down.
The problem is that people don’t trust this method unless they have trained long years in it. And, people lack the intention, the idea behind the punch, which is one of the things that long years of practice will build up in the student.
Anyway, whether you study karate or kung fu or any other classical martial art, that is how you knock somebody out with one punch.
And, if you don’t study the martial arts and want to knock somebody out with one punch…then maybe you should head down to check out your local karate class or kung fu class.
The Bruce Lee One Inch Punch Real Secret is Explained!
The Bruce Lee One Inch Punch has taken on mythic proportions. People watch Bruce Lee movies, and then they look into the history Little Dragon, and when they see the famous Bruce Lee Punch their jaws drop and they think it can only be done by a super human.
The fact is, the Bruce Lee One Inch Punch can be done by anyone, if they are willing to understand some basic concepts and do a little hard work. Before we start, however, let me state that when you google Bruce Lee One Inch Punch you will find wikihow, and they will offer a five step explain on the thing. The problem is that the Wikihow description is for a Karate Punch! It’s not Bruce Lees Martial Arts at all!
Bruce Lee could do a push up on one finger, that certainly helped!
And, you will also find sites explaining the thing through an analysis of the Bruce Lee One Inch Punch power through brains scans, and all sorts of other things. You will also find people claiming, in spite of the Long Beach one inch punch video, that the Bruce Lee One Inch Punch video is fake! Can’t even believe their own eyes. Sheesh.
Okay, now you know where not to look, let me give the simple explanation in simple physics.
When you punch you must sink your weight into the ground, and lean slightly forward so that your body weight goes into the punch. Then it is all a matter of martial arts timing.
Yes, it is that simple. But, the one thing that nobody seems to want to understand, or even to say-and this is the real secret behind the Bruce Lee One Inch Punch-is that Jun Fan (his real Chinese name) studied classical Kung Fu!
It was his studies in Wing Chun that enabled him to do many of the things he did.
Now, it is true that it was his amazing work ethic, his 24/7 obsession with martial arts, that enabled him to translate that classical knowledge into something that worked. But the basic knowledge came from Classical Wing Chun Kung Fu.
I know this to be true because it was in my studies of Classical Karate, and I have seen it in virtually all other traditional martial arts.
The problem with people not being able to do what Bruce did is twofold. First, because the martial arts happened so fast in the United States and the world, much of the knowledge was lost, not passed on.
The second thing, of course, is that people don’t have the intense desire that Bruce Lee had.
That said, the simple description you have here is only one, little, teensy piece of the puzzle. It won’t do you any good unless you decide to learn, and commit yourself to studying the Martial Arts.
And, to insure that you are able to do such things as the One Inch Punch, the physics, the ‘secrets,’ have been resurrected and written down and put on video at Monster Martial Arts.
I know some people will tune this out, and think, yeah, scam, but let me explain a simple fact.
In ‘The Punch,’ just to mention one of the martial arts training programs, There are a hundred pages, and these one hundred pages detail the five ways of doing a martial arts punch, and the correct order.
That’s something that nobody knows. A complete step by step sequence of ALL the things necessary to a true martial arts punch.
Most martial arts instructors tell you to hit the bag, or have you strike air, or do your forms, and they never explain the things that are really happening. That’s not learning knowledge, that’s monkey see monkey do, and it will take you a lifetime to get where you are going!
Or, if you are lucky enough to actually find somebody who teaches an authentic and real and true martial arts system, they usually only know one system, or, at the very least, not enough systems to have the full range of knowledge that The Little Dragon had, and which enabled him to do his One Inch Punch.
So a lifetime of sweating and bleeding, and then you have to be pretty lucky and find the right system and not get waylaid by marriage and kids and education and career changes and car accidents and all of that sort of stuff…or just get the book, get the knowledge!…and simply do it!
Remember, the Secret of the Bruce Lee One Inch Punch is not just the simple three steps I have explained here, but the fact that he he had committed himself to learning ALL of the martial arts.

The Bruce Lee Workout I am describing comes from studies of about Bruce Lee, but is combined with research from other sources. There is data from bodybuilding exercises, weightlifting workouts, and so on.
Mind you, I call it the Bruce Lee Workout, but it comes from a variety of sources. many of which cropped up after his death, or were studies of his workout routines.
Bruce Lee used weight training, diet, and other factors to get this physique
There are three component parts to a Bruce Lee Workout.
The first deals with Bruce Lee Strength training. This is that weightlifting is the third best way of increasing strength. This is because when you weight lift you isolate the muscles. Yes, the muscles get bigger, but since the whole body is not being used, one will not get the tremendous speed of Bruce Lee.
Bruce Lee believed in simple Body Weight exercises!
The second principle associated with a Bruce Lee Workout deals with dynamic strength training, sometimes referred to as dynamic tension. This is when muscle works against muscle. This is a type of workout Bruce Lee liked, but didn’t always talk about. There are, however, Wing Chun exercises in which dynamic tension is present, or can easily be put in. The glory in these exercise routines is that the muscles, though they work against each other, do not isolate. They stay in a ‘group mode,’ and so one is able to use these exercises to achieve Bruce’s speed.
Bruce did do weights, but his lack of mass puts them lower on his priorities
The third Bruce Lee workout principle holds that body calisthenics are the best method for increasing personal strength and power. While the Little Dragon did weights and dynamic tension, he also did Yoga and other body calisthenic exercises.
Tying all of the above together, of course, are things like the Bruce Lee diet, and other fitness concepts.
Thus, to make your own Bruce Lee Workout, one should do a lot of stretching, especially Yoga style. Then do light weight training. Light as one doesn’t want mass so much as definition and efficiency. Finally, the heavy stuff, body weight calisthenics.
And, though many people may object, especially in light of certain Bruce Lee quotes regarding classical martial arts, this author prefers classical martial arts for his body weight calisthenics. It is just more fun to do than simply lifting heavy metal plates, or other similar types of weight training. And, finally, more yoga to cool down and make sure the muscles relax after the work out.
So consider these points when you analyze your own body, what you want to get out of your training, what you think is fun, and then create your own Bruce Lee Workout.

Hi Sensei Al!
(On the Black Belt Course) Everything is working great! Thank you for the quick responses. I am enjoying the one on one videos. It may be cliche, but I do feel like I'm there. I also like the conversational style and the way you explain how you're teaching and why. You've got a new student for life. Thank you. ~ Daniel
What's interesting about Al Case's writings and teachings is there isn't any emphasis on 'the unknown' or 'mystery' behind martial arts. Al will slam this information in your face! Quite frankly the data isn't hidden, you'll find you're blind. ~ WG
Al Case is a powerful presence to be around, but if you can confront it, then you will not be sorry, for there is no one like him, and it is an extreme privilege and honor.
I used to read your articles in Inside Karate and was excited when I found your web site. ~ RV
As an old timer with thirty-five years of experience I was really bored, but your works have peaked my interest and shown me that there is much more to learn. I Thank You Again, Sincerely ~ CC
Where was this information 24 years ago? This course is one of the best things to ever happen to me. Thank you Al Case for the gift of knowledge!
Be blessed my teacher, ~ Rev. Ernest R

In my entire experience twenty years as a student and an instructor since, no one has contributed more to my martial arts education than you have. I started following your works twenty years ago and although I was young then I knew you had the True Art it was obvious to me even then. ~ Charles C
Students will know longer be slaves of poor instructors and practitioners. ~ Lonnie M
Win from Master Instructor Course
Let me start out by saying thank you. Thanks from all the martial artists who asked why. Al, I'm in the Security and Law enforcement field and carry Instructor credentials, so effective methods in combat and teaching them is what I constantly look for.
Win from Matrix Aikido
I just had to write to you to say WOW. Your INSTANT AIKIDO is great!!! ~ SD
My students have started coming up to me after class telling me how much more they are enjoying it, and that the classes have stopped being so ridged and now flow in a kind of give and take between me and them. I have stopped being a task master and started having fun and letting them teach me as well.
I did the Master Instructor Course and it hit me. The Basics that are so concisely communicated in this course including the Matrix principle IS the solution. It doesn’t matter what “style” I call my art, because all styles follow these same principles. It doesn’t matter how hard I train or how many repetitions I do if I don’t train the right way. And I would never become a master if I didn’t know how it all fits together. Now I do! I can honestly say that I am now on the path that I have always sought as a martial artist. Thank you Al!
I conducted a Matrix Aikido training class for a Security Team at a local manufacturing plant. I tailored the training according to their Use Of Force policy. As you know they need control and takedown skills. I knew Matrix Aikido would be the answer. The training plan you shared was boss. The class went so smoothly. The participants learned very quickly. By the end of the class you could see techniques of Monkey Boxing coming through. They were also able to create their own techniques. There was one female officer in the class who asked to become my private student. She was throwing, locking and taking down guys twice her size. The Security Supervisor wants me to come back and with more participants! I'll keep you posted. ~ L M
Have found your books and dvds excellent. My background is mainly in medical qigong but I practice Sun Style Tai CHi, BaGua and HsingI as well as Eagle Claw, Snake Style Kung Fu and several Wudang weapon styles. This is the first time I have had the underlying principles so clearly explained and in a way that they are immediately workable and demonstratable. I have worked through the Master Instructors Course, Aikido and Butterfly Bagua and have started to breakdown the Sun Hsing I using your matrix method. I was even able to teach a 70 year old friend of mine with no martial arts background your instant aikido where she was able to do some very accomplished locks and throws after the first lesson
